PSCF was founded in 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under the leadership of William M. Byland. PSCF affiliated immediately with the United States Chess Federation (US Chess), which was founded the same year, and has been the official state affiliate for Pennsylvania ever since.
It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote the game of chess in Pennsylvania. We believe that playing chess has many benefits in developing young growing minds and maintaining mental sharpness throughout adulthood. We promote chess for all ages.
In meeting the needs of our diverse chess community, the principal activities of PSCF include active sponsorship of scholastic chess; sanctioning, scheduling and oversight of official state championship events; and working to help maximize the involvement, coordination and success of the many individuals and organizations involved in chess throughout Pennsylvania.
The PSCF is an officially designated IRS 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization. Your personal or corporate charitable contribution is greatly appreciated and tax-deductible.
